East Midlands CARE is the only trade association specifically representing care home providers in Leicestershire, Leicester City and Rutland. Membership is open to all independent and voluntary sector organisations registered with CSCI. Key Aims and ObjectivesTo assist homeowners in the understanding and interpretation of the legislation governing private homes. To consult with key agencies on behalf of the private sector in order to promote even handedness in the provision of care across all sectors. To promote high standards of care. To promote and enable the training and awareness of staff employed in care homes. To positively promote the long term care sector. PurposeThe interests of over 100 care home members are represented at local authority and central government by elected officers who are all care home owners. Your representatives attend various panels, forums and consultation groups with local Social Service Departments, CSCI, Skills for Care, the Strategic Health Authority and the PCT’s. We are affiliated to the Forum of Private Business and have links with the English Community Care Association (ECCA), and through these bodies also make representations to Central Government. The communication that exists not only ensures that the voice of the independent sector is heard, but also means that members get up to date information on key changes in policy and legislation. As all members of the executive are care home owners, we are able to understand the needs of members and our residents, and translate our knowledge into practical guidance. Through our affiliation with the FPB members can also access legal advice and guidance on employment matters. We have strong links with social care development groups, and assist in setting priorities for funded training. An example of this has been the highly successful courses that have been run for training trainers in manual handling. For the past 8 years, we have produced the Leicestershire Care Homes Directory (now Directory of Care Providers) in association with the Leicester Mercury. We believe that this has been a useful tool in which local care homes are publicised. It is worthy to note that East Midlands CARE have editorial control, and that the directory is used by social workers etc throughout the region. In order to assist communication with members we have an Intranet web site. Through this, members have instant access to information and sample documentation. Details of suppliers recommended by other members are also listed. Members will have access to the results of our discussions with Social Services and if necessary respond through the sites bulletin board when making a point to the larger membership or if preferred have access to the East Midlands CARE office by e-mail. Cost of membershipThe support that members receive is funded from the fees, work by the officers is provided on a voluntary bases. Yearly fees for 2008 are £285.00 for one home and £25.00 for each subsequent home providing all correspondence is only sent to one address. If you require all information to be sent to all addresses the cost of membership will be the full rate. Application Form DetailsWe would be grateful if new members could print off and complete this Application Form, right click the link and 'Save Target As' to a folder on your computer, the address to send it to is on the form.
